Sokoto Govt, Health College Deny Report of 18 Students’ Abduction

The Sokoto State Government and management of Gamji College of Health Technology have denied a report claiming that 18 students of the institution were abducted while travelling to Oyo State.

The report, published on Monday, alleged that the students were attacked while travelling in a chartered bus and that the driver was killed.

In separate statements, the state government and the college said no student of the institution was involved in any abduction.

The Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, urged the public to disregard the report, describing it as false.

The college’s Registrar, Bello Abdulrahman, also said the report was “FALSE” and “MISLEADING”, adding that all students were safe and continuing with their academic and professional programmes.

The state government said the person reportedly abducted was Halima Sokeni, a former student of Gamji College of Nursing Sciences, More Area, Sokoto State.

According to the government, Sokeni graduated as a midwife in September and was travelling home on October 1 when she and other passengers were abducted in Niger State.

The government urged journalists and media organisations to verify information before publication to avoid spreading false or misleading reports.
