The Ebonyi State Police Command has distributed cheques worth ₦13.23 million to the next-of-kin of deceased police officers in the state as part of support for families left behind by the officers.
The cheques, totalling ₦13,228,287.91, were presented by the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, on behalf of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu.
Okafor expressed condolences to the beneficiaries and acknowledged the difficulties associated with losing their loved ones.
She said the payment reflected the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to supporting officers’ families and maintaining its welfare responsibilities beyond the service of personnel who have died.
The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to manage the funds carefully, with particular attention to their personal welfare and the needs of their children.
She advised them against lending out the money or committing it to businesses that could result in financial losses.
Okafor also assured the families that the Ebonyi Command would remain available to assist them whenever necessary.
Speaking for the beneficiaries, Mrs Ngozi Oruh expressed appreciation to the IGP and the Ebonyi police commissioner for the financial assistance and continued support.
Oruh also prayed for the safety and protection of serving officers of the command.
