The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the killing of prominent politician Ikechukwu Oloto, popularly known as “Okanga Mo”, in Nsukka.
Oloto, 53, was found inside his residence at Odenigbo, Nsukka, with deep cuts suspected to be from machete attacks to his head and stomach.
Police spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident on Friday, September 18, saying operatives were alerted at about 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, after he was found in a pool of blood.
He said operatives moved him to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead, while his body was deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder of Ikechukwu Oloto, male, about 53 years old, in Nsukka. The police received a report on September 17, 2026, at about 5:45 p.m., that he had been found in a pool of blood in his residence. Operatives promptly responded and found him with deep suspected machete cuts to his head and stomach,” Ndukwe said.
The Command said a manhunt has been launched for the suspects, adding that no arrest has been made yet and the motive remains unknown.
Oloto was a well-known political figure in Nsukka LGA. Police said investigation is ongoing to determine if the attack was connected to political activities.
Earlier, gunmen also reportedly killed APC youth leader Lucky Idoko in Igbo-Eze South LGA of the state.
