Man Utd vs Man City: Manchester Derby set to test early title ambitions

Manchester United and Manchester City will meet at Old Trafford on Sunday in the first Manchester Derby of the Premier League season, with both sides facing an early test of their ambitions.

City go into the fixture with a perfect record after winning their opening three league matches under manager Enzo Maresca.

The visitors will be looking to maintain their pace with Arsenal, who moved to four wins from four matches after a 2-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday.

United, however, enter the derby under greater pressure to improve their league position.

Michael Carrick’s side have collected four points from their first three matches and sit 13th in the table.

United were close to securing a win at Everton last weekend before Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored late to deny them all three points.

The Red Devils received a boost ahead of Sunday’s derby with a 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah on Thursday.

City’s perfect start and United’s need for points have added significance to the fixture despite the season being only three games old.

A win would allow City to maintain their early momentum, while United need a result to prevent further ground being lost at the start of the campaign.
