Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly played a decisive role in the club’s decision not to pursue a summer transfer for Chelsea forward Joao Pedro, despite the Brazilian having been identified as one of the potential options to strengthen the Gunners’ attack.
According to BBC Sport, Pedro featured on Arsenal’s list of possible striker targets during the transfer window, but the north London club ultimately decided against making an official approach for the Chelsea forward.
The decision came at a time when Arsenal were open to bringing in another striker following Viktor Gyokeres’ inconsistent first season at the Emirates Stadium. Although Arteta was receptive to strengthening the position, the manager reportedly had reservations about whether Pedro would fit naturally into his tactical system.
