Geely E2 Earns Five-Star Ratings Under New 2026 Euro NCAP Safety Rules

Geely’s E2 electric hatchback has secured a five-star safety rating under the new 2026 testing protocols of Euro NCAP, recording strong results across the four stages now used to assess vehicle safety.

The result places the E2 among the first vehicles tested under the substantially revised Euro NCAP methodology introduced this year. The model achieved scores of 79 per cent for Safe Driving, 72 per cent for Crash Avoidance, 86 per cent for Crash Protection and 95 per cent for Post-Crash Safety.

Euro NCAP published the E2 assessment on September 2, 2026, confirming that the small electric car performed well across all four stages of its latest safety evaluation and earned the maximum five-star rating.

The vehicle is marketed as the EX2 in some international markets, which accounts for the different name used in some safety-related references. Geely Tunisia highlighted the achievement on Friday, September 4, describing it as a significant milestone for the brand under the new testing standards.

According to the representation, the E2 is the first Geely model to obtain five stars from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP under their respective 2026 protocols. The company also presents the achievement as an important result for a vehicle positioned in the smaller A and B segments.

New safety assessment goes beyond traditional crash tests

The significance of the result is partly linked to the changes introduced by Euro NCAP for 2026. Rather than concentrating primarily on what happens during a collision, the revised system evaluates vehicle safety throughout different stages of an accident.

The four pillars are Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance, Crash Protection and Post-Crash Safety. Euro NCAP says the revised methodology was designed to better reflect modern driving conditions and the increasingly sophisticated safety technologies fitted to new vehicles.

Under the new approach, manufacturers are assessed on how effectively a vehicle helps drivers remain safe, how well its systems can prevent or reduce the severity of collisions, how occupants are protected when a crash occurs and what happens immediately afterwards.

For the E2, Safe Driving produced a score of 79 per cent, while Crash Avoidance was rated at 72 per cent. The model then recorded 86 per cent for Crash Protection and its strongest result, 95 per cent, for Post-Crash Safety. Euro NCAP confirmed the same headline scores in its published assessment.

The 72 per cent Crash Avoidance score was the lowest of the four categories, while Post-Crash Safety produced the vehicle’s strongest performance.

The new testing regime also places greater emphasis on real-world driving situations and the effectiveness of electronic assistance systems. Euro NCAP says its updated procedures are intended to address modern road risks more comprehensively than earlier testing approaches.

Driver assistance systems form a major part of the package

The E2 comes with a broad collection of active safety technologies that contributed to its assessment. Euro NCAP lists advanced seatbelt reminders, child-presence detection, driver distraction and fatigue monitoring, advanced speed assistance, adaptive cruise control and steering assistance among its standard safety equipment.

The vehicle also features autonomous emergency braking, emergency lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, low-speed autonomous emergency braking, reverse autonomous emergency braking and protection against so-called “dooring” incidents involving cyclists.

During Euro NCAP testing, the E2 demonstrated strong performance in several of these areas. Its adaptive cruise control was assessed across scenarios involving cars, motorcycles and vulnerable road users, while steering assistance received full marks in the relevant assessment.

The car’s driver-monitoring technology also performed well in tests covering distraction and impairment. Its child-presence detection system is designed to issue a warning if a child is left inside the vehicle.

The E2 also incorporates systems designed to recognise incorrect seatbelt use. Euro NCAP specifically noted that the vehicle can identify situations in which a driver is using only the lap portion of the belt rather than the full restraint system.

Crash protection delivers an 86 per cent score

The E2 recorded an overall Crash Protection score of 86 per cent, with Euro NCAP reporting generally good or adequate protection across many of the tested occupant scenarios.

The assessment also identified areas where protection was less consistent. In the frontal offset test, for example, the driver's lower-leg protection was rated poor based on dummy measurements and pedal intrusion. Some points were also lost because the seatbelt partially slipped from the shoulder of the 10-year-old child dummy.

In the full-width test, chest protection for the front passenger was rated marginal, although other areas of protection were generally good or adequate. Euro NCAP also recorded marginal chest protection for the driver in the side-pole impact.

The E2 nevertheless performed well in the side-barrier test, while its centre airbag was designed to reduce the possibility of occupants striking one another during a lateral collision.

The assessment also considered protection for pedestrians and cyclists. Results were more varied in this area, with the protection offered to the heads of struck pedestrians and cyclists showing weaker performance across portions of the bonnet, although pelvis and leg protection was generally stronger.

Post-crash safety is the E2’s strongest area

The highest score achieved by the Geely E2 came in Post-Crash Safety, where it recorded 95 per cent.

Euro NCAP's assessment found that the vehicle performed strongly in the measures designed to support occupants and emergency responders after a collision. The E2 received full points across the post-crash safety elements assessed by the organisation, including provisions intended to facilitate occupant extrication.

The electric vehicle is also equipped with systems intended to address risks associated with its high-voltage battery following a collision. Battery isolation and measures relating to fire risk form part of the post-crash assessment of the vehicle.

Other provisions include automatic activation of hazard warning lights and multicollision braking, while the continued operation of important doors, controls and restraint-related components is intended to assist occupants and emergency personnel following a crash.

Euro NCAP also assessed the vehicle's advanced eCall equipment. While the hardware required for the system is fitted to the vehicles evaluated, third-party service provision is not currently available in the relevant markets, according to the assessment.

A broader safety benchmark for smaller electric cars

The five-star result gives Geely a strong safety credential as the E2 continues its international expansion.

The model is already sold in more than 30 countries, according to the information supplied by Geely Tunisia, with the manufacturer reporting more than 800,000 units sold globally. Geely also describes the model as the best-selling vehicle across the A and B segments in 2025.

Its performance under the 2026 Euro NCAP regime is particularly notable because the new assessment system is designed to make the safety rating more demanding and more representative of real-world conditions. Euro NCAP says the 2026 changes represent its largest revision to the assessment system since the introduction of its overall rating system in 2009.

The E2’s five-star result therefore goes beyond a conventional crash-test headline. Its rating reflects performance before a collision, in attempts to avoid one, during an impact and in the critical period immediately afterwards.

With 79 per cent in Safe Driving, 72 per cent in Crash Avoidance, 86 per cent in Crash Protection and 95 per cent in Post-Crash Safety, the Geely E2 has emerged from the first wave of testing under the 2026 protocol with the maximum overall rating.

For Geely, the result strengthens the safety credentials of its small electric hatchback as the company expands its presence in international markets. For buyers, the assessment provides a broader picture of how the vehicle's safety systems perform across the complete chain of accident prevention, crash protection and post-crash response.
