Two Students Reportedly Die, Four Hospitalized in Suspected Substance Abuse Incident Near Gateway ICT Polytechnic

Saapade, Ogun State – Two students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, have reportedly died, while four others were rushed to a hospital following a suspected substance abuse incident in Oke Ola Phase 1.

According to reports, seven students were allegedly gathered in a room around midnight, where they were believed to be inhaling or consuming a substance locally referred to as “Ice gas.” During the incident, two of the students reportedly lost their lives, while four others became unconscious and were taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

One of the students, who reportedly managed to leave the room, alerted residents in the area, prompting neighbours to respond and assist in rescuing the remaining victims before emergency services arrived.


Police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have also reportedly contacted the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, as part of efforts to establish the facts surrounding the case.

As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the victims have not been officially released, and the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation. Police have urged members of the public to avoid speculation while inquiries continue.

Gateway ICT Polytechnic has not yet issued an official statement regarding the reported incident.

As investigations continue into the suspected substance abuse incident in Oke Ola Phase 1, Saapade, new information gathered by DGR News indicates that one of the seven individuals involved was not a student of Gateway ICT Polytechnic.

According to sources familiar with the ongoing investigation, the individual is also not an indigene of Saapade. He reportedly travelled from another state to visit a friend residing in the community before the incident occurred.

Authorities are still working to establish the identities and roles of everyone present during the incident. Police investigations remain ongoing, while officers continue to gather statements from survivors and witnesses to determine exactly what led to the tragedy.
