Former Bayelsa East senator and media entrepreneur Ben Murray-Bruce has praised President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies following the successful rescue of pupils and teachers who were abducted in Oyo State.
Describing the operation as a major security success, Murray-Bruce said the outcome reflected the importance of coordinated leadership, intelligence gathering and professionalism in addressing kidnapping and other security threats across the country.
Murray-Bruce Applauds Rescue Operation
In a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, the former lawmaker said the safe recovery of the victims demonstrated what could be achieved when security institutions worked together effectively.
He described the operation as a significant achievement and urged Nigerians to recognise the efforts of those involved.
“The successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State is a remarkable achievement and a testament to what can be accomplished when leadership, intelligence, and professionalism come together.”
He added that every rescued child represented a victory for the nation and said such successes deserved public recognition and encouragement.
“Every child returned safely to their family is a victory for our nation. This is the kind of success that deserves recognition and encouragement.”
Presidency Confirms Successful Rescue
Murray-Bruce’s remarks came shortly after the Presidency announced that all the abducted pupils and teachers had been rescued alive during a coordinated security operation.
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the rescue mission was carried out by security operatives without making concessions to the kidnappers.
He disclosed that eight suspected members of the kidnapping gang were arrested during the operation, while several others were killed in the exchange.
Onanuga also revealed that the abductors had demanded the release of one of their detained leaders in exchange for the victims’ freedom, but the Federal Government rejected the request.
He stated that the suspected kingpin remains in custody and is currently facing prosecution for alleged criminal offences.
According to the Presidency, security agencies will provide a detailed account of the operation at a later date.
Victims Express Gratitude
Following their rescue, the pupils and teachers expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the security personnel involved in securing their release.
In a video released by the Presidency, one of the rescued victims thanked the President for his commitment to ensuring their safe return.
The victim also acknowledged the efforts of the security agencies, saying they were grateful for the operation that reunited them with their families.
Tinubu, Makinde Hail Security Personnel
President Tinubu welcomed the successful conclusion of the operation and commended the security agencies for rescuing the victims safely.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde also praised the officers involved, describing the rescue as an encouraging development in ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and protect lives across the state.
The operation has been widely viewed as a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping, with government officials expressing optimism that continued collaboration among security agencies will strengthen efforts to combat violent crime across Nigeria.
