The Northern Elders Progressive Movement (NEPM) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for what it described as notable progress in addressing insecurity, improving infrastructure, and fostering peaceful coexistence across Nigeria.
In a statement issued in Sokoto on Monday, the group’s Secretary-General, Mallam Yusuf Abubakar, said the Federal Government has demonstrated strong political will and commitment in confronting security challenges, particularly in the North-West region.
According to the group, military operations have significantly weakened the activities of bandits in several states, leading to improved security and renewed hope for affected communities.
“The progress made in reducing the operational strength of bandits across various states deserves recognition and support. Although isolated attacks still occur, the Armed Forces have intensified operations in notorious forest hideouts, dismantled criminal camps, and restored confidence among residents,” the statement noted.
The NEPM highlighted successful security operations in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states, stating that several bandit camps had been destroyed and notorious criminal leaders neutralized during coordinated military offensives.
The group specifically praised Operation Fansan Yamma, describing it as one of the most effective security operations in recent years. It urged the military to maintain the momentum until lasting peace is achieved throughout the region.
The movement also applauded the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, for his role in strengthening military operations and providing strategic support that has enhanced the effectiveness of Operation Fansan Yamma and other security initiatives in the North-West.
NEPM further called on Nigerians to support security personnel and appreciate the sacrifices they make daily in safeguarding the nation.
“Our security personnel continue to demonstrate courage, resilience, and patriotism. They deserve the support and encouragement of all Nigerians,” the statement added.
The group also urged citizens, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious differences, to promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that national development can only thrive in a stable and peaceful environment.
It stressed that preserving Nigeria’s unity and political stability requires collective effort, patriotism, and mutual respect among citizens.
According to the movement, the Federal Government’s achievements across key sectors reflect its commitment to strengthening democratic governance, preserving national unity, and laying the foundation for sustainable development despite ongoing economic and security challenges.
The NEPM reaffirmed its support for initiatives that promote peace, security, and inclusive growth, expressing confidence that Nigeria can overcome its current challenges through responsible leadership, national unity, and continued public cooperation.
